Bobby Ray and Mary at Holmestead Farms says the Blackberries and Blueberries will be early this year.  It will probably be in the first or second week of  May. You can go to our website at www.holmesteadfarm.com and register your e-mail to receive information on our u-pick or we-pick berries, fruits and veggies. By registering your e-mail address you will be notified when the berries, fruits, and veggies are ready for picking. You may also call 256-404-4316 to place advance orders. Register or call today.  UPDATE 4/20/2012:

We’re 22 days away from the 5/12 races at Chimney Cove Properties in Wedowee, 1/2 mile north of town on the river.  We expect about 45 race boat to compete in up to 5 races, including the finale ….The Demolition Derby.  That winner will win all kinds of loot including pirate trophies, gear, and their photo on the cover of a new book of Global Records by Collectey.net ….for the longest float time in a Demolition Derby.  It will be clear who the winner is: the last boat rowing with the crew inside the boat!!  Action packed hilarity!!  Come root your friends on to victory (or secretly you may hope they sink!)

We are gunna have a slam-jammin’ event, and you are invited to the best Lake party this summer ! Free admission, free parking for the Randolph County Animal Shelter fun-raiser.

What’s to do:
Lard Bucket Blue Grass Band starts playing at 10am.
Vendors – including
       Tanner East Alabama’s 55′ mobile screening bus, and other vendors;
       Pony rides for youth start by 9am
View the race boat designs;
       Racers finish Registration at 11 am, and the boats are taken to the boat ramp for the 1 pm races.
Breakfast by Wedowee Hospital Auxiliary is from 8-10:30; biscuits, sweets, coffee, etc.
Lunch by RCAS at 10:30: 
       2 hot dogs or a Hamburger or a BBQ sandwich hot off the grill, with chips and drink $5.

Noon – 1 pm:   The opening ceremonies followed by the inner tube races (we supply tubes/prizes)
2:30                   Silent Auction winners are posted
1 – 3:45 pm:     The boat races; paddlers can enter up to 5 races
4:00:                 Awards and stage give-aways

Silent auctions; 9 am-2 pm; including 2 nite lodging packages at Cheaha State Park Lodge, Chimney Cove, and Patriot Riding Stables and Retreat (Delta; includes 2 hours horseback riding).  We have a beautiful new 4′ wood cross, dog/cat beds w/pads, Star Camp Actor’s class, dental cleaning, pet spay/neuter, attorney services, gas grill, Vera Bradley bag, tickets to World of Coca Cola and the Atlanta Aquarium, and much more to bid on.  Need not be present to win.

The awards ceremony at 4 pm; stage give-aways, and 26 photo plaque race awards, and 3″ gold holographic medals for youth age 9 who were brave enough to compete in the boat races.

$15 Event t-shirts are now available for pre-order, and you may p/u after 5/1 at the Shelter.  Shirts are Gildan’s Ultra’s best 50/50 shirt, pre-washed and pre-shrunk. Please pickup your reserved shirts at the Shelter, or at Registration before 2pm.  Pre-paid shirts that are not picked up, will be available for you to pickup at the Shelter on 5/15.

ALABAMA TAKES CENTER STAGE AS HOLLYWOOD HIGHLIGHTS HUNTSVILLE’S SPACE CAMP

SPACE CAMP® and the U.S. Space & Rocket Center will be featured in a made-for-TV movie, Sunday Night, January 29^th on ABC at 9/8pm central.  The movie, “A Smile as Big as the Moon,” is a true story based on the novel written by Mike Kersjes.

There are numerous mentions in the movie about Huntsville and traveling to Alabama to attend Space Camp.  The filming in Huntsville was made possible thanks to assistance from the Alabama Film Office and the Alabama Tourism Department. The Space Center extends special appreciation to Alabama Governor Robert Bentley, State Tourism Director Lee Sentell and to Kathy Faulk and Tommy Fell in the Alabama Film Office.

Mike Kersjes brought the first group of special needs children to attend Space Camp in 1988.  Kerjses, a coach and special education teacher in Grand Rapids, Michigan, helped his students achieve their impossible dream of attending Space Camp at a time when the camp accepted mainly gifted students.  In order to get his students into the camp, Kersjes contacted Dr. Deborah Barnhart, who at the time was Director of Space Camp Operations and is today the U.S. Space & Rocket Center’s CEO and Executive Director. 

The Friday night event IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.  You can attend the movie premiere in Huntsville for $10.00 inside the Saturn V Hall.  If you’d like to attend, please visit, www.spacecamp.com/smilemovie to reserve a spot for you and your guest(s).
